Malouf Return Policy for Electrical GM Parts
Electrical components are the most sensitive parts in your vehicle. To protect the integrity of the OEM parts we sell, and to guarantee that every customer receives a brand-new, uncompromised component, we enforce strict guidelines on the return of electrical items.
No, if the part has been installed or plugged in. Once an electronic module, sensor, or wiring harness has been connected to a vehicle's electrical system, it cannot be returned for a refund. Unopened electrical parts in their original, sealed GM packaging may be returned within 30 days, subject to inspection and a potential restocking fee.
Why Are Electrical Parts Non-Returnable Once Installed?
This policy is standard across the automotive industry and is strictly enforced by General Motors. Here is exactly why these parts cannot be restocked:
Invisible Internal Damage
If you plug a new ECM or sensor into a vehicle with an existing electrical short, the new part can be instantly ruined. This internal damage is invisible from the outside. We cannot risk selling a compromised part to the next customer.
"Test-Fitting" Prevention
Many DIY mechanics use new parts to "guess and check" a diagnosis. If the new part doesn't fix the Check Engine Light, they attempt to return it. Dealership parts departments are not diagnostic rental libraries.
VIN-Locking
Modern electronic control modules often "lock" to a vehicle's VIN the moment the ignition is cycled. Once programmed to your specific car or truck, the module is permanently useless to any other vehicle.
How to Never Need an Electrical Return
The best way to avoid return headaches is to order the exact right part the first time. Do not rely on visual matching or basic year/make/model data for electrical components.
- Always provide your 17-character VIN during checkout.
- Let our parts experts map the required sensor or module directly against the GM Electronic Parts Catalog.
- If you are unsure of the diagnosis, consult a certified technician before ordering parts.
What if the part is defective?
If you believe a newly installed OEM GM electrical part has failed prematurely, it falls under the GM Parts Warranty, not the return policy.
Warranty claims require diagnostic proof from a certified shop or dealership showing that the part itself failed, rather than being destroyed by an underlying issue in the vehicle.
