What is a catalytic converter?
A catalytic converter is an emissions control device that converts harmful gases and pollutants in exhaust gas into less harmful emissions before they leave your GMC vehicle's exhaust system.
Where is the catalytic converter located?
You'll find the catalytic converter in the exhaust system, between the engine and the muffler. It's usually positioned under your vehicle near the engine exhaust manifold.
When should a catalytic converter be replaced?
Catalytic converters typically last about 70,000 to 100,000 miles.
How do I know if my catalytic converter needs to be replaced?
Signs that your catalytic converter might need to be replaced include a drop in engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency, a sulfur or rotten egg smell from the exhaust, rattling noises under your car, and a lit check engine light.
